Microsoft Word Starter 2010 Repair

Microsoft Office Starter 2010 is a limited-function version of the Microsoft Office software suite. It comes pre-loaded on certain HP computers and is not a trial version. It provides the use of basic productivity tasks for as long as needed. It also allows you to upgrade to the full version of Microsoft Office if additional features are required.

In the list of installed programs, find the entry for Microsoft Word / Microsoft Office. Select that near the top of the window you should see next to the Uninstall option either Repair or Change. If Repair then simply click it and follow the prompts, if you only see Change then select that, you'll then get a MS Office / Word window appear.

While using Microsoft Office Starter, it may stall or you may receive an error message asking you to repair the program. To execute the repair, watch the following video, or perform the steps below it:

  • Note: This will repair the entire Office suite even if it's just one application you want to repair such as Word or Excel. If you have a standalone app installed, then search for that application by name.
  • Download Microsoft Software License Terms (MSLT) for Microsoft Office Starter 2010 from Official Microsoft Download Center. Office 365 Experience the best of Office with the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more.

(Solved) - Microsoft Word Starter 2010 has stopped working

(17 posts)

MS Word Starter 2010 was pre-installed on my Dell laptop. Worked fine till today now it just won't open - whether I click on the programme itself or try to open a document; no error message. I've run a restore to no avail (on my old PC I oculd choose from lots of dates to do a restore but only had 2 options this time) Laptop running on Windows7. Any help would be appreciated.
Wasn't sure if this should go under Microsoft Office?
Anne

For those who do not know as I did not. What is Office Starter 2010?

As far as system restore points there is a check box 'Show more restore points' which may give you more choices.

Starter should continue to work as long as you want it to. If you look in Control Panel -> Programs and Features there may be a repair button at the top when you highlight the Microsoft Starter entry.

(MS Word Starter) It's just a free version of MS Word that was bundled with the laptop. I did click on 'Show more restore points' but there weren't any. When I click on the programme there is no 'repair' button.

http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/26083-microsoft_office_starter here is a link to download Office Starter 2010. It came from the MS Office support site. Possibly try uninstall what you have now that is not working and install this.

Have you tried uninstalling or repairing the program? Does it give you Click-2-Run configuration failue?

Warlock, have tried installing from that link, but it hasn't worked. When I tried I got the message 'Click-2-Run configuration failure' however I don't get any error message when I try to open the version I already have on my laptop.

Windows 10 Microsoft Word Starter 2010 Repair

The free starter version you have pre installed is just a stripped down version of Office 2010. The problem is if you download and try to install any upgraded version you will lose everything. The starter version only comes as a preloaded application.
You can try a restore point to a time when it worked or if that doesn't work you might have to reload your entire system with the restore disks that came with your computer.

If you are not able to fix this and can not, or do not wish to, afford to upgrade I would recommend that you simply forget it and download one of the free clones Libre Office or Open Office. They should serve you equally as well as Starter and will be able to use all your previous documents without problem.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/update-repair-or-uninstall-office-click-to-run-products-HA010382089.aspx There is a repair operation you might try in this link. Also the install might not have worked because you didn't uninstall what you already have.

@warlock, MS doesn't offer any starter download. If the OP downloads office it will come with a price tag and make his free starter unuseable as a free preinstalled application. If you find any downloadable starter it is ad supported

@germ-x, You are right. I did so much searching to try and help the OP. I can't find which link on the support site sent me to that download. Maybe the link I put on above your post will be able to repair his.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/results.aspx?filter=1&ck=1&qu=word starter 2010&ex=2 This is where I found the download in my first post. Microsoft Office Starter 2010 free download-software reviews. I typed word starter in the search on this page. Then the 13th item down was what I posted.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm unable to uninstall as when I try I get the error message 'Click-2-Run configuration error'. It seems I get that whatever I try to do. Found a 'fixit' programme on the MS website but that didn't work either. It looks like I'll have to take Xhi's advice and download another programme. I had thought about that anyway.
BTW though there was no 'Repair' button there is a 'Change' button, but again using that option didn't work.

The starter version does not do much anyway. It is just come on to get you to buy the full Office program which, to me is worth it. Try Xhi suggestions, might be all you need.

To reiterate warlock's last post, the starter edition has many limitations even for every day use to be sure.
Xhi's link for Libre Office is a very good solution

I work tech support for a big US retailer and I get at least one of these calls a week and have yet to figure out how to fix it. I've tried doing everything in the Microsoft KB and it's still unresolved. I've even had customers try to reinstall Office Starter (If you look hard enough you can find it for download) but still the Click-2-Run config failures come up. I've even called Microsoft directly and the MS agent told me 'Office Starter is a trial'. After telling the guy he was wrong I just usually set the customer up with OpenOffice or Libre Office.
